Why is this important?

Prostate cancer is a leading cause of cancer death among men in the United States. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, about 1 in 7 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer and about 1 in 36 will die from prostate cancer. Prostate cancers usually grow slowly. Most men with prostate cancer are older than 65 years and do not die from the disease. A prostate specific antigen (PSA) test may find prostate cancer at an earlier stage than if you don’t get screened, but most medical groups don’t recommend screening with the PSA test.
