New Directions for Youth
A Good Idea
Description
The mission of New Directions for Youth (NDY) is to provide comprehensive programs that help at-risk youth become productive, self-sufficient and healthy young adults.
Since 1976, New Directions for Youth has provided various programs and services to at-risk youth. Through their Therapeutic Counseling program, NDY provides assessment, counseling, and referral services to young people and their families regarding issues such as gang affiliation, substance abuse, physical and sexual abuse, drop-out decisions, and depression. NYD’s Graffiti Removal and Neighborhood Beautification project utilizes workers referred from the court or probation department to remove graffiti in the hopes of teaching community pride, self-respect, respect for property, and the value of volunteerism.
Other NYD programs include: Summer Employment, Literacy Training, Career Education and Exploration, Gang Prevention, Delinquency Prevention, Alcohol and Drug Prevention and Recovery, Parent Education, Alternative Services for Youth, and the Community Technology Center.
